Regarding the contract extensions of its cherished singers, YG Entertainment is experiencing a number of modifications. This also applies to the members of BIGBANG, of whom only G-Dragon, the group’s leader, is still a part of the original group.

Taeyang has transferred to THEBLACKLABEL, and T.O.P. and Daesung have left the firm. At the same moment, actor Kang Dong Won also called it quits. It was an uncommon occurrence for the Yang Hyun Suk-founded label that all six members of iKON left with their group name still attached. And lastly, the burning issue on everyone’s mind still stands: Will BLACKPINK’s deals with YG Entertainment be refreshed?

The agreement between BLACKPINK and YG Entertainment

Questions regarding the quartet’s future surfaced at the same time as news of other label artists quitting or deciding to renew was made public. There were several rumours that the girls had relocated to the company’s subsidiary THEBLACKLABEL, similar to Taeyang of BIGBANG. The female quintet allegedly started talking about their contracts in 2021. The agency quickly refuted any such reports, noting that there was still plenty of time for them to negotiate a deal with BLACKPINK, in December itself. It is well known that the group’s contract is slated to expire in August 2023, so any extensions or departures must be finalised before then if the stars don’t want to become free agents.

Online rumours are currently circulating that Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa were paid millions of dollars to stay there and not switch agencies. Industry insiders have offered their two cents on the matter, stating that the corporation plans to invest a substantial amount of money to be able to keep both the group and the females.

The Chinese companies are reportedly keen on signing the Thai singer and are willing to pay 100 billion KRW (about $81.2 million USD) to do so. Lisa continues to be one of the most sought-after performers in the world. One can never tell how much of these discussions are true.

What will YG Entertainment accept?

Netizens are speculating as to whether they are even in a position to create a suitable counteroffer now that the matter is closed and the ball is in YG Entertainment’s court. According to insiders, the agency would likely invest at least 20 billion KRW (about $16.2 million USD) each member to keep BLACKPINK active for another two to three years.

These figures raise the question of whether the firm will actually be able to recoup the funds invested all through the specified period or if signing with the ladies will be a no-brainer given that they are more likely to continue with the group marketing because of their huge fanbase.

Plans of BLACKPINK for this year

The girls are now on their BORN PINK World Tour, which started in Seoul, South Korea last year and has since expanded to the USA, Europe, and most recently Asia, confirming the group’s already-established worldwide reputation. The first K-pop girl group, BLACKPINK, was also revealed as one of the headliners at this year’s Coachella music festival, where they will perform for two weekends. Up to the end of June, they had scheduled musical engagements before their scheduled July 1 performance at the BST Hyde Park 2023 event.

Additionally, it was previously revealed that Jisoo will make her solo music debut in 2023 after making her acting debut in the K-drama “Snowdrop” opposite Jung Hae In in 2022.

Although the timetable has not yet been made public, it is anticipated to occur in the first part of the year. However, Jennie will be making her acting debut as Anys in The Weeknd’s HBO series “The Idol,” which also stars Lily-Rose Depp in the lead role. The other members have not yet revealed intentions to make any comebacks. It is also the brainchild of Sam Levinson, who previously produced the well-liked sitcom “Euphoria,” which stars Zendaya.
