John Wick: Chapter 4’ is less than two months away and we all know that this very well could mark the end to one of the most celebrated action thriller franchises of Hollywood.

Not getting ourselves into the discussion of fifth instalment, we are all expecting John Wick’s character to end in a pleasing way with the main character finally finding peace and happiness, but looks like the director of the film has other plans.

‘There’s no happy ending’

The director of the film Stahelski talked about the fourth instalment in a recent interview with Indiewire. He said, “Keanu and I have never, from one to two, two to three, ever expected to do a sequel or a follow-up, John may survive all this sh*t, but at the end of it, there’s no happy ending. He’s got nowhere to go.”

Stahelski further talked about the future of John Wick. “Honestly, I challenge you right now, here’s a question to you: How do you f***ing want me to end it? Do you think he’s going to ride off into the f***ing sunset? He’s killed 300 f***ing people and he’s just going to [walk away], everything’s okay? He’s just going to fall in love with a love interest? If you’re this f***ing guy, if this guy really exist[ed], how is this guy’s day going to end?”

The fans aren’t so happy with director of the film hinting at a not so happy ending to their dearest character. The only way to know the director’s intentions more precisely is to wait till the release.

Is the director not bothered about the John Wick 4’s long runtime?

The director of ‘John Wick: Chapter 4,’ Stahelski does not seem so bothered about the film’s 2.5 hour long runtime. He talked about it in a conversation with Collider. He said, “I’ve had people who I trust and know say, ‘Well, it’s too long. Cut 20 minutes out.’ And you’re like, ‘Okay, that’s your feeling, that’s your opinion.’ […] I mean, we wrote a longer movie. We wrote a bigger movie. We wrote a longer script. We wrote at least a third more scenes than the last one. We expect it to be more. We’ve always expected it to be more. And I think the test, or at least what we’re judging ourselves by, is if it’s worth it with how we executed what we want it to be more of or not?”

‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ arrives in theaters on March 24, 2023.
