Netflix has released a trailer for the animated series Lookism, which is based on a popular Korean webtoon

Lookism

Netflix released a trailer for their new animated television show ‘Lookism,’ based on Park Tae Joon’s hit webtoon, on September 25 KST. Park Hyung Seok, an overweight school misfit who is frequently tormented at school, obtains the ability to soul hop between his usual body and that of a slimmer, taller, and more handsome young man in the trailer. Park Hyung Seok’s power has both advantages and downsides, as he is bound to his more attractive form during the day and must return to his original one at night.

Anime and manga are one of the world’s most ideal pairings. Countless manga have inspired blockbuster series and vice versa over the years. As South Korean webtoons have grown in popularity in recent years, anime has broadened its repertory to include manhwa adaptations. And now, a new source confirms that the Netflix drama Lookism will have its own animation!
Netflix and its TADUM event internationally recently made the announcement public. Fans were notified there that Park Tae-hit joon’s manhwa is getting its own series adaptation, and you can see the first trailer below.

Studio Mir is producing the series, which will premiere on November 4th. The company is well-known to anime and animation fans for its work on The Legend of Korra, The Boondocks, Dota: Dragon’s Blood, and other projects. Of course, Studio Mir is also in South Korea, so there aren’t many production studios that are aware of how popular Lookism is among fans. And, judging by the trailer above, the show’s production staff is going all out for Park’s story.

Yu Jae-Myung, the animation director for Avatar: The Last Airbender’s second and third seasons, launched Studio Mir in 2010. According to the website, the studio focuses on collaboration for improvement, which was inspired by the Russian space station Mir launch in 1986, which made headlines as the first space station ever launched. As a result, the studio has concentrated its efforts mostly on foreign cooperation. Studio Mir announced in 2018 that it would produce its first original, Koji, a fantasy/adventure series. This will be the first anime adaptation of a Korean webcomic by Studio Mir.

The story, written by Park Tae-joon, concerns Park Hyeong-seok, a high school student who is bullied because he does not suit the conventional beauty standards: he wears glasses and is fat. He asks his mother to let him transfer schools before travelling to Seoul in the hopes of escaping his background. Unfortunately, the abuse continues when he arrives in Seoul. He wakes up one morning to discover himself entirely transformed: he’s leaner and more muscular, and he no longer need glasses. Everyone’s opinion of Hyeong-seok changes after seeing his new body and face. Hyeong-seok observes how various individuals treat others based on their appearances as he flips between his original and new bodies.
