Bleacher Report

Devin Haney, the world’s best lightweight boxer, was accused of carrying a hidden weapon inside a moving vehicle, a felony, but the Los Angeles district attorney’s office said the case will not be prosecuted.

The DA’s office informed ESPN via email that “the case involving Devin Haney was declined on July 27 due to insufficient evidence.”

The DA’s office claims that Haney wasn’t informed of the verdict until Thursday, the day after he appeared in court in Los Angeles.

Last month, Haney (30-0, 15 KOs) was detained but later freed on $35,000 bond. When his car was stopped by police for a traffic check, the 24-year-old was in the back seat, according to Bill Haney, Devin’s father and trainer, who spoke to ESPN at the time.

The boxer, who competes out of Las Vegas, recently won by decision over Vasiliy Lomachenko to keep his undisputed title at 135 pounds, which was the biggest victory of his career.

On October 28, Haney will make his debut at 140 pounds when he takes on Regis Prograis for the WBC junior welterweight title.
