After achieving unexpected success at the U.S. box office, the faith-based political thriller “Sound of Freedom” is now set to captivate audiences overseas. Angel Studios, the independent studio behind the film, has announced release dates for 21 international markets, including the U.K., Australia, Spain, South Africa, and several countries in Latin America. The movie, which has already earned over $127 million in ticket sales domestically, is proving to be the sleeper hit of the summer season.

“Sound of Freedom” has consistently performed well since its release on July Fourth, reaching the $100 million milestone on July 19, just over two weeks after its debut. Its remarkable box office performance even outpaced “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One,” which premiered on July 12 and had a North American total of $124.2 million by Tuesday of this week.

Directed and written by Alejandro Monteverde, the film stars Jim Caviezel, known for his role in “The Passion of the Christ,” portraying real-life hero Tim Ballard. Ballard, a former agent for the Department of Homeland Security, embarks on a personal mission to bring child traffickers to justice by founding his own anti-trafficking organization called Operation Underground Railroad. The movie also features a talented cast, including Mira Sorvino, Bill Camp, José Zúñiga, and Eduardo Verástegui, who is also one of the film’s producers.

Angel Studios, based in Utah and operating outside of the traditional Hollywood studio system, offers a unique “pay it forward” option, allowing consumers to donate tickets to others. The film’s success is largely attributed to its powerful message and critical acclaim.

In its international rollout, “Sound of Freedom” will be directly released in theaters in Latin American countries and the U.K./Ireland. In other markets, Angel Studios will collaborate with local distributors to bring the film to audiences.

Jared Geesey, Angel’s senior vice president of global distribution, expressed enthusiasm for expanding the film’s reach worldwide. Geesey highlighted that child trafficking is a global issue, and they hope to build on the film’s incredible momentum in the U.S. by sharing its impactful message with audiences around the globe.

The international release schedule is as follows: South Africa on August 18, Australia and New Zealand on August 24, Latin America on August 31 (including Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Belize, Panama, Colombia, and Venezuela), and the U.K./Ireland on September 1. Spain will see the film released on October 11.

Angel Studios, known for its crowdfunding model, is home to successful projects like “The Chosen” and relies on the support of its community, the Angel Guild, which consists of over 100,000 people who vote on eligible films submitted to Angel Studios. With “Sound of Freedom,” the studio aims to continue making an impact on global audiences and spread awareness about the pressing issue of child trafficking.
