Hoda Kotb Replaced by Craig Melvin as TODAY Show Co-Anchor

Craig Melvin will take over as co-anchor of NBC’s TODAY show in January, replacing Hoda Kotb after she announced in September that she would step down following nearly 20 years with the show. Melvin, currently a news anchor for TODAY and co-host of the show’s third hour, expressed his excitement and gratitude for the opportunity during an emotional announcement on Thursday’s broadcast. He will co-anchor the 7 and 8 a.m. hours alongside Savannah Guthrie starting January 13.

Kotb, who has co-anchored with Guthrie since 2018, will remain in her role until January 10. She shared that her decision to leave was made after turning 60, feeling it was time for a new chapter in her life. Guthrie and the TODAY team praised Melvin for his qualifications and character, with Kotb calling him "literally made for this job."

Melvin’s transition marks a significant change for TODAY, as the show will undergo other shifts in January. While Melvin continues his role as co-host of the third hour, the fourth hour will be renamed TODAY with Jenna & Friends and feature a rotating cast of co-hosts until a permanent host is selected.

Melvin, who has been with NBC News for nearly 14 years, is well-known for his extensive experience, including coverage of major events like the Olympics, Super Bowl, and presidential interviews.
