Historic Single-Game Performance and Dramatic Finish Highlight Week 12 Sunday in Washington

In a week full of thrilling moments and remarkable performances, Sunday’s NFL action delivered in ways few expected, with historic milestones, dramatic finishes, and unexpected heroes. Here are the main storylines:

Saquon Barkley’s Historic Performance

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley turned in one of the most memorable individual performances of the season on Sunday Night Football, leading his team to a 37-20 win over the Los Angeles Rams. Barkley, who joined the Eagles in the offseason after leaving the New York Giants, rushed for a franchise-record 255 yards on 26 carries, adding over 300 total yards and becoming just the 13th player in NFL history to reach that milestone in a single game.

Barkley’s performance included two touchdowns of 70+ yards, making him the first player in NFL history to achieve such a feat in the second half of a game. His explosive runs helped the Eagles secure their seventh consecutive victory, improving their record to 9-2. Despite the Rams’ early lead, Barkley’s dominance put the game out of reach in the second half. The Eagles’ offense remained efficient, with quarterback Jalen Hurts praising Barkley as the league’s best: "He’s the best at what he does," Hurts said.

Wild Ending to NFC East Clash

The game between the Washington Commanders and Dallas Cowboys turned into a dramatic spectacle, especially in the final moments. Dallas led 10-9 through three quarters, and it looked like Washington had a chance to make a comeback after a touchdown and a successful two-point conversion made it 17-14. But then, Cowboys returner KaVontae Turpin delivered a jaw-dropping 99-yard kickoff return touchdown, seemingly sealing the game for Dallas.

However, Washington refused to give up, as rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels led an incredible 86-yard touchdown connection with wide receiver Terry McLaurin. The extra point was missed, though, meaning Washington trailed by just one point. Despite their late-game heroics, the Commanders’ hopes faded as Dallas sealed the game with an onside kick recovery and a return for 43 yards.

Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy described the ending as a “game situational extravaganza,” as the game saw 31 points scored in the final 3:02. The Cowboys ended their five-game losing streak with a 34-26 win, while Washington's playoff hopes continue to slip away.

Chiefs Hold Off Panthers for Narrow Win

The Kansas City Chiefs managed to bounce back from their first loss of the season with a 30-27 victory over the Carolina Panthers, but it wasn’t easy. Despite a strong performance from quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who threw for 269 yards and three touchdowns, the Panthers remained competitive, thanks to an inspired performance from rookie quarterback Bryce Young.

Young’s best game of the season, combined with a touchdown run by Chuba Hubbard, brought Carolina back into the game, tying it at 27-27. But Mahomes showed his clutch ability, leading a decisive fourth-quarter drive, capped by a 33-yard run to set up the game-winning field goal. Spencer Shrader, filling in for the injured Harrison Butker, nailed a 31-yard kick as time expired, securing the win for the Chiefs and improving their record to 10-1 on the season.
