Eva Longoria Reveals Her Family’s Move Away from a ‘Dystopian’ US
Eva Longoria has shared that her family no longer resides in the United States, splitting their time between Mexico and Spain. In a recent interview with Marie Claire, Longoria explained that the decision was influenced by the "changing vibe" in the U.S. following the Covid-19 pandemic, concerns over homelessness and high taxes in California, and the re-election of Donald Trump. She acknowledged her privilege in being able to make such a move, noting that many Americans don't have that luxury and are "stuck in this dystopian country."
Known for her work in politics, especially in advocating for women and Latinos within the Democratic Party, Longoria has been deeply involved in political campaigns, including supporting Kamala Harris in 2024 with the tagline "She se puede" (a spin on Obama's "Yes, we can"). Despite her activism, Longoria expressed disillusionment with the political climate, especially after Trump’s victory over Harris, which led her to feel that the political system may no longer operate with fairness.
Longoria, a ninth-generation Texan who spent much of her adult life in California, reflected on how it felt like a "chapter" of her life had closed. She is married to José "Pepe" Bastón, the president of Televisa, and they share a six-year-old son, Santiago, while Bastón has three children from a previous marriage.
