Taylor Swift made history at the 2024 Grammys by winning her fourth career Album of the Year award for “Midnights.” This achievement surpassed her previous tie with Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra, and Paul Simon, making her the record-holder for the most Album of the Year wins in Grammy history.
The award was presented by legendary pop singer Céline Dion, who made a rare public appearance after being diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome in 2023. Dion emphasized the importance of not taking for granted the tremendous love and joy that music brings to people’s lives worldwide.
Swift took the stage alongside her go-to-producer Jack Antonoff and Lana Del Rey, her collaborator on “Snow on the Beach” and a fellow nominee for Album of the Year. In her acceptance speech, Swift expressed her gratitude to both Antonoff and Del Rey. She referred to Antonoff as one of her best friends and a “once-in-a-generation producer” and called Del Rey a “legacy artist, a legend in her prime right now.” Swift stated that she feels lucky to know Del Rey and be her friend.
Despite her overwhelming joy at the Grammy triumph, Swift emphasized that the true happiness for her lies in the work itself. She mentioned that the award is as meaningful to her as finishing a song, cracking the code to a bridge she loves, or completing the shot list for a music video. Swift reiterated her ultimate career-related wish, expressing her desire to continue doing what she loves.
Taylor Swift’s previous Album of the Year wins were for “Fearless” (2010), “1989” (2016), and “Folklore.” Her latest win solidifies her position as the artist with the most victories in this category in Grammy history.
