The announcement of Maze frontman Frankie Beverly’s farewell tour marks the end of an era for fans of the legendary R&B group. After 54 years of musical excellence, nine gold albums, and a catalog of hits that have become part of the soundtrack of people’s lives, Beverly has decided to bid farewell to the stage.
The “I Wanna Thank You Farewell Tour” will kick off in Atlanta on March 22 at the State Farm Arena and conclude in Los Angeles on May 12 at the Kia Forum. Fans in Atlanta can also look forward to an afterparty following the concert, with details to be announced soon.
Following the tour’s conclusion, Beverly will travel to Philadelphia for a street renaming ceremony, honoring the city where he and his bandmates began their musical journey in 1970 as Raw Soul before adopting the name Maze.
In an exclusive comment to Billboard, Beverly expressed his gratitude to his fans and associates for their support over the past five decades. He also announced his decision to pass on the lead vocalist role to Tony Lindsay, with the band continuing as Maze Honoring Frankie Beverly.
The farewell tour is being produced by the Black Promoters Collective (BPC), who expressed their honor in joining forces with Beverly for this momentous occasion. Beverly’s music has left an indelible mark on the R&B landscape, with timeless hits like “Happy Feelings,” “Golden Time of Day,” and “Joy and Pain.”
Beverly’s musical journey has been deeply intertwined with the legacy of Marvin Gaye, who mentored Maze in their early days and suggested their name change. From their beginnings as Gaye’s opening act to their rise to fame with Capitol and Warner Bros., Maze’s influence on the genre has been profound.
Pre-sales for the farewell tour begin on Feb. 15, with general ticket sales starting on Feb. 16. Fans across the country will have the opportunity to witness Frankie Beverly & Maze live on stage for one last unforgettable tour experience.
