Doja Cat’s mother, Deborah Elizabeth Sawyer, has reportedly filed a temporary restraining order against the singer’s older brother, Raman Dalithando Dlamini, alleging physical and verbal abuse towards both her and Doja. According to the legal documents obtained by TMZ, Sawyer claimed that Raman, 30, at one point knocked out Doja’s teeth, though the timing of this incident remains unclear.

Deborah further asserted that her son had been physically abusive, causing “cuts and bruises” to Doja, in addition to stealing and destroying her property. She also accused Raman of being verbally abusive, creating an environment that made Doja feel “unsafe and traumatized.” The mother claimed that she, too, was a victim of physical abuse and threats from Raman within the past year.

The judge granted Deborah court-ordered protection from her son pending a hearing for a permanent restraining order. However, the same protection was not extended to Doja, with the judge ruling that she would need to file her own request for a restraining order.

In the legal documents, Deborah disclosed that she had previously obtained a restraining order against Raman, but it had since expired. The family situation has not been commented on by Doja Cat’s representatives.

Doja Cat, born Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, has risen to fame as a singer and rapper. Born in Los Angeles to Deborah and Dumisani Dlamini, a South African performer, Doja has previously mentioned experiencing racism as one of the few mixed-race kids in her neighborhood. She disclosed in a Rolling Stone interview that her brother used to make fun of her for not having Black friends.

Doja, who suggested estrangement from her father in the past, has not publicly disclosed the total number of siblings she has. In a 2021 interview with Fader, she mentioned having siblings scattered across various cities and expressed feeling blessed despite not having a traditional nuclear family.

The legal developments coincide with Doja Cat’s Scarlet Tour, supporting her fourth studio album titled “Scarlet,” which began in October 2021. The tour, spanning North America and Europe, is scheduled to conclude in Belgium in July 2023.
