Dune Prequel Series to Begin Filming From Next Month

Dune: The Sisterhood is an upcoming HBO Max series that has been in development for several years. According to Deadline, the spinoff prequel series is anticipated to start filming in Budapest, Hungary, next month. The next film in the franchise, Dune: Part Two, will also be under production at the same time as the series.

The news was released shortly after it was revealed that Indira Varma, who most recently portrayed Obi-Wan Kenobi, will be appearing in the series as Empress Natalya. Along with Varma, Emily Watson and Shirley Henderson will also appear in the series as Valya and Tula Harkonnen, respectively. The show’s originator, Diane Ademu-John, also works as a co-showrunner and writer. Along with co-showrunner Alison Schapker, Ademu-John is the project’s executive producer. The series will be directed by Johan Renck, who has previously worked on shows like Chernobyl and Breaking Bad.

Although the planned series’ specifics are still unknown, it will be based on Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson’s novel Sisterhood Of Dune. The Harkonnen Sisters will reportedly be the main characters of the show, which will reportedly be set 10,000 years before the events of Dune. It will also reportedly explore the history of the Bene Gesserit order and the forces that threaten humanity’s future. The new series has the ability to further develop the rich and deep universe of the franchise in a way that has never been portrayed on screen because it is set 10,000 years before the events of the first movie. The franchise’s first two films were directed by Denis Villeneuve, who also serves as executive producer on Dune: The Sisterhood alongside JonSpaihts, Scott Z. Burns, Matthew King, John Cameron, and Cait Collins. The show is also executive produced by Herbert, Byron Merritt, and Kim Herbert, with Anderson serving as a co-producer. The show will be produced by HBO Max and Legendary Television. Dune: The Sisterhood’s official release date has not yet been determined.
