Dune Prequel Series ‘The Sisterhood’ Begins Production

Over the past few weeks and months, Dune: The Sisterhood, the live-action prequel series to Denis Villeneuve’s blockbuster movie, Dune, has been amassing quite the eye-catching ensemble, and now that they’ve decided who will play who, filming can start. The Sisterhood started filming on November 22. Emmy-winning director Johan Renck, who will direct the first two episodes of the series, announced this on Instagram.

Dune, a movie based on the same-named original novel, was released in October 2021 simultaneously on HBO Max and in theatres. The critics praised Villeneuve’s adaptation, praising his direction, the epic sense of scale, and the world-building in particular. Later, the movie received ten Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, and ended up winning six of them.

Dune: The Sisterhood is characterised as a television series that is shown from the perspective of the Bene Gesserit, a secret society of strong women who are granted great magical talents by having their minds and bodies subjugated. The Bene Gesserit navigate The Imperium’s warring factions, political scheming, and intrigue while still pursuing their own objectives, which eventually lead them to the planet Arrakis, also known to its people and viewers as Dune.

Emily Watson, Shirley Henderson, Indira Varma, Travis Fimmel, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Faoileann Cunningham, Aoife Hinds, and Chloe Lea will all appear in Dune: The Sisterhood. The show’s creator, author, co-showrunner, and executive producer is Diane Ademu-John. Co-showrunner and executive producer Alison Schapker is involved. With Diane Ademu-John serving as showrunner, the series will be scripted by Jon Spaihts, a recurring franchise author.
