The House Hightower ascent is hinted at in the House of the Dragon episode 8 teaser. The new prequel series centers on the House Targaryen during the height of their rule over the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros and is set about 200 years before the events of the popular HBO program Game of Thrones. Members of the king’s council and family plot against him when King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine) declares his daughter, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, as the successor to the Iron Throne, which eventually sparks the civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons.

The royal families gather at Driftmark in the seventh episode of House of the Dragon to bury Lady Laena Velaryon (Nanna Blondell) at sea. As Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) and Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) are brought together, tensions build as suspicions about her children’s legitimacy appear in front of the king and deep-seated romantic feelings are sparked. Prince Aemond Targaryen (Leo Ashton) slips away after the service in the middle of the night and makes a link with the dragon Vhagar. This prompts Aemond to defend himself brutally when confronted by Laena’s daughters. Prince Lucerys Velaryon (Harvey Sadler) gets injured in the eye with a knife during the altercation, leading to a confrontation between Queen Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and Rhaenyra sets them both up for an unavoidable encounter.

House of the Dragon Moves Inevitably Toward War

Tensions among the family have never been worse as a result of Rhaenyra being made to pay for her son’s attack on Aemond in House of the Dragon episode 7. The anger between the two families has not subsided, as the House of the Dragon episode 8 teaser demonstrates. Rhaenyra’s claim is in jeopardy despite the kingdoms’ commitments to her since Alicent and her father appear to be in charge of the throne in Viserys’ place. The struggle for control among the Seven Kingdoms could get even more complex now that Corlys has also been suggested as receiving a mortal wound during combat.

She must fortify the relationship with her supporters to assist ensure her ascent to the throne or else she risks finding her neck at the point of a blade, along with her children, while Rhaenyra and Daemon rush back to King’s Landing to probably prepare for her father’s death and to defend it. Despite the fact that Rhaenyra had previously given Alicent the opportunity to unite their families through the marriage of their offspring, ensuring the protection of her children, the Queen’s mistrust and hate of the heir apparent had forced her into a life-or-death situation.
