No Time To Die Star Billy Magnussen joins Netflix’s Spy Kids Reboot film. The wildly successful franchise got its start in 2001 with a straightforward idea. The initial film’s success led to a number of sequels, and now that the series has lain dormant for some time, Netflix is bringing it back to life.

The Spy Kids series, which debuted in 2001, centres on a pair of brothers who follow in their parents’ footsteps by becoming spies and become involved in their spy agency’s operations. The sequel movies and subsequently a number of animated series followed after they established a department in the organisation tasked with creating the next generation of spies. Another soft reboot, this new episode’s focus will be on two kids, the offspring of the world’s greatest spies, after they unintentionally assist a perverse game developer in creating an uncontrollable computer virus. The children must assume the role of the parents and save the planet because the virus gives the developer control over all of the technology.

According to the synopsis, the movie will “set after the children of the world’s greatest secret agents unwittingly help a powerful game developer unleash a computer virus that gives him control of all technology, leading them to become spies themselves to save their parents and the world.”

Robert Rodriguez, who created the series and has overseen the films from beginning to end, is back for the reboot. The movie is co-produced by Skydance and Spyglass, with Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre serving as executive producers for Spyglass and David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger as executive producers for Skydance.

Magnussen has quietly built up a remarkable filmography and television appearances over the past few years. His most recent major film roles were in No Time to Die and The Many Saints of Newark, the latter of which saw him play a younger version of Tony Sirico’s Paulie Walnuts. He most recently appeared alongside Cristin Milioti and Ray Romano in Made for Love. Along with many other films, he has also appeared in Into the Woods, Game Night, and The Big Short.
