Rapper Kodak Black got arrested over drugs trafficking

Rapper Bill Kahan Kapri, who is popularly known by his stage name Kodak Black got arrested on Friday. The rapper was accused of doing drugs trafficking oxycodone. According to the, The Hollywood Reporter, Kodak was booked Friday into jail in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he awaits a bond hearing.

According to a press release obtained by CNN, the rapper was stopped when Florida Highway Patrol noticed that his car’s tinted windows “looked to be darker than the legal limit.” In a press release, the Florida Highway Patrol claimed that they smelled marijuana in the SUV, searched it, and discovered a small clear bag with 31 white tablets and about $75,000 in cash. Later, it was discovered that the tablets were oxycodone.

The rapper’s lawyer Bradford Cohen said in a statement, “Never judge a case based on an arrest. There are facts and circumstances that give rise to a defense, especially in this case. We negotiated a bond of 75,000 (dollars) and we will move forward with resolving the matter quickly.” For his album Back for Everything, Kodak Black debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart this year. It was his fifth album to appear in the top five on the chart.

Following his detention, Kapri was reportedly detained on Friday for “possession of a controlled substance without a prescription,” according to online police records. Kapri, a native Floridian, pleaded guilty to making false statements with intent to get firearms from a gun store in the Miami region and was given a three-year jail sentence in November 2019. Later, in January 2021, former US President Donald J. Trump commuted his sentence.

A South Carolina grand jury indicted Kapri in 2017 on counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct before the allegations involving weapons. Kapri was also admitted to the hospital after being hurt in a gunshot in February outside a Los Angeles nightclub.
