Uncharted is one of many Sony films that will be available on Netflix during the first pay window, and we’ve finally learned that it will be available on the service in July 2022, precisely on July 15th. That deadline has now passed, and its premiere on Netflix in the United States has been pushed out to August 2022. However, it is currently available on Netflix India.
Based on many PlayStation video games released over the last decade or so, the film starred Tom Holland as Nathan Drake, a famed wealth hunter.
The film was a box office success for Sony early in the year, grossing more than $400 million. Along with Holland, the film also starred Mark Wahlberg as Sully, Sophia Taylor Ali as Chloe, and Tati Gabrielle as Braddock.
Uncharted was released in theatres on February 18th, 2022 by Sony (although was originally planned for July 2021 and delayed again recently from February 11th to February 18th).
When will Uncharted be available on Netflix?
Uncharted will be available on Netflix in the United States in 2021, according to a new Sony contract. All Sony theatrical films are available on Netflix in the pay-1 window. It’s uncertain how long this pay-1 period will last. It is estimated that it will take between 120 and 200 days after its theatrical release.
We received confirmation in June that the film would be available on Netflix exactly 119 days after its theatrical premiere, on July 15th, 2022.
Unfortunately, we’ve learned that Uncharted will not be available on Netflix on July 15th. It turns out that it is currently being delayed by more than a month.
Uncharted will not be available on Netflix until August 19th, 2022, according to an updated notice on the Uncharted page. We’ve reached out to Netflix for comment on the reason for the delay.
This delay has no effect on Netflix India, which will have the film available on July 12th, 2022.
When Netflix finally acquires the film, it should be available for 18 months before departing for Disney’s other platforms (in this case, we think it will be available on Hulu). That means the film should not be removed from the market before 2024.
Will Uncharted be released in more Netflix regions?
We are not aware of any other deals for Netflix areas other than the United States at this time.
However, many nations currently have second window rights to Sony’s output. That means the film will be released in late 2023 or early 2024.
We’ve also disclosed release dates for a few more Sony films that will be available on Netflix in the United States as part of the new arrangement, including Morbius (the pact’s second theatrical release) and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2. This contract has also included Honey Girls, Never Back Down: Revolt, and Who We Are: A Chronicle of Racism in America.
