Tom Holland, known for his role as Spider-Man, once pitched the idea of playing a young James Bond to Sony. This intriguing pitch took place while he was filming “Spider-Man: Far From Home.” Although the concept didn’t ultimately come to fruition, it led to another exciting opportunity for the actor.

Holland shared his experience in an interview with Total Film, explaining, “I had a meeting with Sony to pitch this idea of a young Bond film that I’d come up with.” At the time, Sony did not have the rights to Spider-Man and was actively involved in the James Bond franchise, which is now under the control of MGM.

His proposed concept centered around an origin story for James Bond, offering insight into the iconic character’s early years. However, it seems the Bond estate was not particularly interested in this approach, leading to the idea’s dismissal.

Despite the pitch not gaining traction, Sony didn’t want to miss out on collaborating with Holland. Instead, they extended an offer for him to play the role of Nathan Drake in the film adaptation of the popular video game “Uncharted.” This opportunity proved to be a turning point for Holland.

Holland explained, “The idea of a young Bond film sparked this idea, in turn, that you could do a Nathan Drake story as an origin story, rather than as an addition to the games.” He accepted the role and starred as Nathan Drake in the film “Uncharted,” directed by Ruben Fleischer. The movie, released in 2022, enjoyed considerable success, becoming the sixth-highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time, earning over $401 million worldwide.

While Tom Holland explored the possibility of portraying a young James Bond, the iconic spy role has undergone changes. Daniel Craig, who played Bond in several films, has stepped away from the franchise, leaving fans eagerly awaiting the announcement of his successor. Barbara Broccoli, the producer behind the Bond series, has expressed interest in casting a British actor in the role.

In the meantime, Tom Holland is set to continue his role as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with a sequel on the horizon, although no official release date has been confirmed.
