Lawsuit against Alec Baldwin filed by US Marine's family dismissed

A defamation lawsuit against Alec Baldwin was dismissed by a judge. Rylee McCollum was a marine who was martyred in Afghanistan in August, 2021, his family sued Alec Baldwin this year. As per McCollum’s loved ones, Baldwin made falsely accused them of being present and taking part in the January 6th, 2021 Capitol Hill riots in Washington DC. The family requested a trial by jury.

A court document from 4th May, read, “The Court finds and concludes that the McCollums have failed to meet their burden of proof in showing that this Court may properly exercise personal jurisdiction over Mr Baldwin. Therefore, the Court GRANTS Defendant Baldwin’s motion to dismiss for lack of personal jurisdiction.” Alec’s lawyer reacted to the decision, telling, “We are pleased with this victory. This is a significant step toward the complete dismissal of the lawsuit, which seeks to punish Mr Baldwin for expressing his political opinion.”

Rylee McCollum, who was 20, lost his life following an explosion near Afghanistan’s international airport as American military personne were processing evacuees who were suppose to leave Afghanistan in the wake of the Taliban usurpation. After Rylee passed away, Alec Baldwin uncovered one of his sisters Roice on Instagram and donated her 5 grand to be sent Rylee McCollum’s widow Jiennah Crayton and their child. The lawsuit detailed that Alec accused Roice of being part of the January 6th Capitol violence. He called her an “insurrectionist” and “Jan 6 rioter” via Instagram DM.

Later, Baldwin posted her snaps at the protest on his account and told Roice, “I reposted your photo. Good luck.” He deleted the post since then but Roice, her sister Cheyenne and sister-in-law claim they got death threats and hateful messages ever since “The Boss Baby” star reposted their snaps. Roice did posted a snapshot of herself at the US Capitol and wrote the caption, “Throwback (American flags).

Roice explained in the lawsuit that she attended the protest on January 6th on the Capitol, however, did not took part in the riots which followed and emphasized that her name was cleared after an interview with the FBI.
