After writing an op-ed in The Washington Post in December 2018 characterising herself as “a public figure representing domestic abuse,” Johnny Depp is suing his ex-wife Amber Heard for libel defamation. Johnny Depp’s defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard began on April 11 after Johnny filed a case against her in March 2019. Amber had previously testified that when Johnny returned home, she would offer him a glass of wine and remove his boots. “When I got home from work, she’d seat me down, give me a drink of wine, and take my boots off,” Johnny explained. Amber often admonished him, “no, no, no, that’s my job,” whenever he did it himself. That is something I do, not something you do.”

“We’ve heard a little testimony about boots,” Amber’s attorney, Elaine Bredehoft, said on Wednesday. What did you do, if anything, to assist Johnny with his boots”? “Well, I think I removed his boots and it left an impression on him.” Amber said, “I was eager to do anything I could to demonstrate love.” “It was obviously how I felt about him,” she continued, “but if he wanted to take off his own boots, he could.” Johnny laughed when he heard Amber’s words. On Twitter, a video of the instant this happened was shared.

Johnny is suing Amber in Fairfax County Circuit Court for libel defamation after she penned an op-ed in The Washington Post in December 2018 characterising herself as “a public figure representing domestic abuse.” Even though the piece does not mention Johnny by name, his lawyers claim he was defamed because it obviously linked to charges she made during their divorce procedures in 2016.The case continues to draw widespread attention. More than 100 people queued outside the courthouse before 7 a.m. on Wednesday, three hours before the hearing began, for the 100 seats available in the courtroom. The majority were Johnny’s supporters and admirers.
