Netflix Has Cancelled ‘Raising Dion’ After Two Seasons

Raising Dion

Season 3 of Raising Dion has been officially cancelled by Netflix, and disgruntled fans are criticizing the streaming service for its decision.
After the first season of the drama series was released in 2019, it became an instant hit. However, fans had to wait more than two years for the sequel, which debuted on Netflix in February of this year.
Despite the fact that fans enjoyed the latest season’s storyline, Netflix decided it was time to call it quits on the show.
Raising Dion, which was co-produced by Michael B Jordan’s Outlier Society Productions, quickly gained a large fan base. However, the cast members of the show recently announced on social media that it had not been renewed for a third season.

Raising Dion was based on Dennis Liu’s comic book and told the story of Nicole (Alisha Wainwright) and her son Dion (Ja’Siah Young) after Dion began to manifest several mysterious, superhero-like abilities. Season 2 follows Dion as he continues to hone his powers with the help of his mother and Tevin (Rome Flynn), his Biona trainer who catches Nicole’s eye two years after defeating the Crooked Man (Jason Ritter). After befriending new student Brayden (Griffin Robert Faulkner), a fellow powered child, a series of alarming events occur, and Dion discovers that danger is still present.

On April 26th, cast member Sammi Haney, who played Esperanza, announced the cancellation via Instagram.
Alisha Wainwright, who played Nicole Reese on the show, took to Twitter to inform fans of the tragic news. “I feel Raising Dion did so much for little black and brown children and children with disabilities,” she wrote. The actress also expressed her appreciation for being a part of the show.

Netflix has not stated why the show was cancelled. However, a report on What’s On Netflix mentions a few factors that may have contributed to the cancellation.
According to the outlet, the time gap between the release of seasons one and two likely resulted in a drop in viewership.
Following the release of season two in February 2022, Raising Dion dropped out of the global top 10 between February 28th and March 6th, logging in less than 9.11 million hours in the week.
