Will Tokyo Vice Have A New Season?

Tokyo Vice is a show on HBO Max which has managed to gain a significant number of audience who cannot wait to find out what happens next in the bilingual crime series after season one. Since the first episode of Tokyo Vice was directed by Michael Mann, the director of films such as Heat (1996) and Collateral (2004), it is not surprising the high level of interest viewers have shown to this show. Now, the elephant in the room which must be addressed is whether Tokyo Vice will have a new season or will it be renewed at all.

It’s true that when the show was being written, HBO has not renewed Tokyo Vice for a new season. However, this decision must not be understood as final. Since the first season has not concluded as of now and the show is garnering positive reviews as well as impressive viewership, it is likely that HBO will continue Tokyo Vice by officially renewing it.

Tokyo Vice is based a true story, it focuses on a reporter named Jake Adelstein. The plot of the series is that in 1999 an American student by the name of Jake Adelstein moves to Japan and has to qualify in an exam in Japanese language in order to become a part of the staff of a leading newspaper in Japan. Adelstein manages to pass the exam and becomes the newspaper’s first foreign employee. He begins his career from the lowest level but soon a veteran detective takes Jake Adelstein under his responsibility. Jake will then stumble upon the deadly and sinister world of Japan’s yakuza.

Actor Ansel Elgort, best known for Baby Driver (2017) and The Fault In Our Stars (2014), plays the role of Jake Adelstein. Ansel Elgort has been accused of sexual misconduct by several women, though he has denied the accusations and he has not been arrested as of now, the public perception is against him. Therefore, a giant corporation like HBO will most likely not work with someone with a questionable morality and viewers will have to accept that he won’t be reprising Jake Adelstein.

Besides Elgort, Ken Watanabe, known for The Last Samurai (2003), portrays detective Hiroto Katagiri and Rachel Keller of Legion (2017-19) fame depicts Samantha Porter.
