Netflix’s blockbuster historical drama series Bridgerton season 2 has overtaken its first season as the most viewed English-language series on the platform. Even though just the first season was online for the duration of that week, Season 2 aired on March 25, the Chris Van Dusen-created period romance was comfortably the No. 1 show on streaming for the week of March 21-27 on Nielsen’s rankings.

According to Netflix’s most recent quarterly report, the Regency-era series, produced by Shondaland, racked up a total of 627.11 million viewing hours in the first four weeks, exceeding season 1’s viewing hours in the same period. Squid Game, Netflix’s Korean-language sitcom, is still the streaming service’s most popular show.

In Season 2, the focus changed from Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), the central pair from Season 1, to Daphne’s elder brother Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and his romantic interest Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley). While Dynevor returned for Season 2 and spoke about her now-husband Simon being off screen with their infant Augie, Page was fired as a series regular before the second season began and did not appear in any of the episodes.
