Britney Spears shared that she is pregnant a couple of months after her conservatorship was terminated leading her to get freed from her father’s control. The hit singer announced that she is having a child with her boyfriend named Sam Asghari, describing that she experienced depression in her previous pregnancy. In June, 2021, she expressed to a judge in Los Angeles that her conservatorship is not letting her get married, have children or get rid of her birth control. Earlier, Britney Spears disclosed that she wants a family with Sam Asghari. However, the conservatorship prevents her from making decisions regarding her life and body, Spears had this legal arrangement imposed on her by her father following her infamous mental breakdown in public in 2007.
Britney Spears argued against the conservatorship, narrating in court in 2021 that the legal gaurdianship controlled and restricted her reproductive rights, saying, “I have an IUD inside of myself right now so I don’t get pregnant….but this so-called team won’t let me go to the doctor to take it out because they don’t want me to have children. So basically, this conservatorship is doing me way more harm than good. I want to be able to get married and have a baby. I was told right now in the conservatorship I am not able to get married and have a baby.”
Britney Spears noted that her pregnancy will be hard since earlier she went through perinatal depression which means women experiencing depression when they become pregnant till almost a year after the delivery. Stating that it was completely “horrible” and was not addressed earlier because “some people considered it dangerous if a woman complained like that with a baby inside her”. The “Toxic” artist shares two kids with her former spouse named Kevin Federline and, Spears also added that she is happy that she can now talk about such things openly.
