“It’s Okay to Not Be Okay” is an award-winning popular K-Drama which explores the issue of mental health via its two protagonists one of whom is suffering from antisocial personality disorder while the other is an employee in a psychiatric institution and is taking care of his elder brother, who is autistic. Unlike other romantic K-Dramas, the story of It’s Okay To Not Be Okay is deeper and sad. Ever since its premiere in 2020, the show has gained popularity among viewers of Korean shows in America, streaming it on Netflix. Many fans are eager for a second season after devouring its sixteen episodes.
The news of the show, which has managed to made it to the New York Times’ List of Best International Shows of 2020, being renewed is uncertain so far. It is not shocking or unusual that a show like this does not have a new season even after more than a year because most K-Dramas are written in such a way that they only focus on one season. Korean dramas’ screenplay are set in such a way that they cover the beginning, main part and climax perfectly.
If “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay” season 2 is made, it would most likely have the previous actors Kim Soo-hyun who is Moon Gang-tae, the protagonist, Oh Jung-se playing Moon Sang-tae and Seo Ye-ji as the heroine.
Season 1 of the show narrated the relationships among Ko Moon-young, who is a children’s book author and two orphaned brothers named Moon Gang-tae and Sang-tae. Moon-young and Gang-tae fall in love with each other and she also creates a deep relationship with Sang-tae. The trios’ lives are, however, linked with a gruesome tragedy as Moon-young’s mother has murdered the brother’s mom. The overwhelming storyline of the characters and their relationships are concluded in the end but the series can revisit a few domains such as depicting the mother-daughter bond after she is send to jail for murder.
The show talks about the problem of mental health very well. There are many fans of “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay” who desperately want it to continue and keep checking the news for any updates for a new season. This speak volumes of the quality of the Korean series. So far there isn’t any news regarding season 2.
