The Oscar awards are only a week way but it appears Rachel Zelger won’t be attending, though not by choice. Steven Spielberg directed, West Side Story is nominated for seven academy awards including Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Sound and Best Supporting Actress for Ariana DeBose and Best Picture.

After her fans commented on her post saying they are eager to see what she would be wearing for the ceremony, the actress reponded in comments itself that she would cheer for her movie from home. She commented, “I’m not invited so sweatpants and my boyfriend’s flannel.” This surely did leave the fans in disbelief. In another comment she added, “Idk y’all I have tried it all but it doesn’t seem to be happening I will root for west side story from my couch and be proud of the work we so tirelessly did 3 years ago. I hope some last-minute miracle occurs and I can celebrate our film in person but hey, that’s how it goes sometimes, I guess.”

The West Side Story fans did show a bit of outrage over the star’s shocking missed invitation. Although the star said thanks to the fans who felt deeply for her. As she starred as lead role Maria in the Steven Spielberg’s musical which is nominated for the Best Picture at Oscars, this is purely shocking to find out she’s not invited for the 94th Academy Awards.

While Zelger will be surely missed at the ceremony, her co-star Ariana DeBose is among the top contenders for the Best Supporting Actress win. However not inviting the lead of one of the nominee for the Best Picture is latest in a series of questionable decisions defining this year’s Academy Awards. Although Zelger’s lack of invite for the ceremony might be because she didn’t bag a nomination for Best Actress which does highlight that none of the Best Actress nominees are from any film nominated for Best Picture category but no explanation has been provided yet.
