The Suicide Squad’s Polka-Dot Man, David Dastmalchian, has teased his potential involvement in Clerks 3 in an in the background Instagram picture with Kevin Smith. Dastmalchian plays the tragi-comic Polka-Dot Man in James Gunn’s standalone spin-off of 2016’s Suicide Squad. The character, a metahuman who can produce energy-filled polka dots from his body, has been a hit with crowds and is rapidly turning into a fan-favorite. The movie additionally is by all accounts a triumph with crowds, as it gazes set to clock upward $30 million in the cinematic world over its opening three days.

Posting on Instagram, Dastmalchian presents with Smith, his co-star and director, outside the well known Quick Stop shop. The picture seems to be a BTS picture from the set of the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. Dastmalchian, looking wide-peered toward at the camera, is wearing a SWAT team costume, complete with a bullet-proof vest and helmet. Smith, pointing up at his co-star, is wearing his Silent Bob clothing. In the post, Dastmalchian wishes Smith the “happiest of birthdays” and closures the caption in a cliffhanger hinting at a potential return to his character in Clerks 3. Look at the photo beneath:

Dastmalchian, who made his film debut as a got away from Arkham Asylum inmate in The Dark Knight, has been building his superhero movie CV in recent years. He showed up as Kurt in Ant-Man and its spin-off, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and has had roles in Gotham and The Flash. All the more recently, obviously, he has most donned the polka dot suit in The Suicide Squad and will be found in the impending Dune. Dastmalchian’s acting abilities would therefore be notable to Smith, an immense comic book and superhero movie fan, and the writer/director might have chosen to give Dastmalchian an extended role in Clerks 3 as the Polka-Dot Man actor turns out to be more recognizable to crowds.

Drawing from Smith’s own background, the story of Clerks 3 will follow Randal who, after a heart attack, enlists his kindred clerks to make a movie about his life at the Quick Stop. While there has been no casting announcement about Dastmalchian’s involvement, and the actor’s Instagram post could basically be a reference to his excitement for Smith’s forthcoming film, the teased “cliffhanger finishing” of the post suggests Dastmalchian might have a role to play in Clerks 3. Accommodatingly, Dastmalchian seems to have a relatively free timetable, with just the forthcoming Last Voyage of the Demeter in his journal. Clerks 3 doesn’t yet have an official delivery date.
