James Gunn, the current co-CEO of DC Studios, was not the first choice for the position by Warner Bros. Todd Phillips, a filmmaker, was the candidate that the corporation coveted most.

The New York Post claims that Warner Bros. chose Phillips as their top candidate to lead the freshly renamed DC Studios after he made waves with his stand-alone Joker movie. An unidentified source reported, “The job was rejected by the whole community… Todd Phillips was nearly there. They pleaded for him.” In the end, the position was shared by Warner Bros. executive Peter Safran and Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker James Gunn. According to the article, hardly anybody in Hollywood was interested in taking on the job.

Major Restructuring at DC Studios

The Joker director was reportedly 'begged' by Warner Bros. to lead the new DC Studios 2

After Black Adam’s debut in October, Gunn, and Safran were named the new leaders of DC Studios. Since then, several significant changes have reportedly occurred, all of which point to a full relaunch of what was formerly known as the DCEU. Stars from the previous trilogy have been cut from anticipated cameos, including Gal Gadot from Wonder Woman and Henry Cavill from Man of Steel, who were both slated to appear in the forthcoming movie The Flash.

Some of the adjustments have received a lot of criticism, especially those that affect Cavill. The actor hinted that there will be additional appearances after his cameo in Black Adam, which preceded the reorganization. To the point of hinting at a whole series based on the rivalry between Black Adam and Superman in the DC Extended Universe, actor Dwayne Johnson and producer Hiram Garcia

However, despite claims to the contrary from both Cavill and Johnson, it has now been revealed that Cavill never had a formal deal with DC Studios and that any intentions for a Man of Steel sequel or additional ventures were never more than a verbal arrangement. However, the studio does have plans for the lead, as Gunn confirmed he is working on a Superman movie that would concentrate on a younger Clark Kent.

As of right now, only Blue Beetle, The Flash, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Aquaman, and the Lost Kingdom are still scheduled to be released. This does not, however, ensure that any of these characters will remain in the story. Even though Jason Momoa would return for the Aquaman sequel, a recent rumor said the DC Universe planned to put him in a different character to wrap off the Aquaman narrative. It should be emphasized that there haven’t yet been any formal announcements.
