Ismael Cruz Córdova, who plays Arondir in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, claims that Arondir will experience more internal strife in season 2. In season 1 of the program, Arondir, an Elf archer stationed in the Southlands, attempted to protect the area from invading Orcish forces while being motivated by his love for Bronwyn and her son, Theo. The Rings of Power’s season one episode seven indicates that Arondir would travel to Pelargir, a historic Numenor colony whose territory they may utilize to start afresh, together with the Southlands’ refugees.

Córdova discussed the internal struggle that Arondir would have in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 now that he has joined the Southlands’ human population in an interview with TVLine. When season 2 premieres, he claims that Arondir’s elf identity would be crucial because he could face a decision that forces him to choose between Bronwyn and his elf lineage. Below, you can read what Córdova had to say:

We’re always talking about elves and human relationships and humans as babies in the eyes of elves, but I think it’s reversed with him entering a more human dynamic. He is a baby in terms of knowing how to be domestic and how to be a dad or a boyfriend.

That’s the meat of the conflict of this guy. At the end of the day, he’s an eternal being. He’s going to outlive humans in one way or another. He’s chosen to go with the humans right now, but if he gets called upon, will he choose his family or his people?

What Will Arondir Do Next In The Rings Of Power?

Arondir’s integration with the Southlands’ inhabitants will reportedly play a significant role in shaping his character development in the second season of The Rings of Power. As half the humans in Bronwyn’s town trusted him with their lives and assisted him in fighting back against the invading Orcs in Season 1, it was clear that Arondir had gained acceptance in the Southlands. He will continue to form bonds with other combat refugees besides Bronwyn now that he has decided to travel with them to Pelargir. This also applies to her son Theo, with whom he appeared in a few moments during season 1.

The destruction of the Southlands may be the catalyst for the struggle between Arondir’s love of humans and his elf status. In season 1, episode 6, Arondir accidentally kills a large number of Southlands residents when the dark elf Adar looks for Sauron’s sword to turn on Mount Doom. As Adar proceeds to execute civilians one at a time, Arondir struggles to retain his composure. This causes Theo to expose the location of the blade, which Arondir tries to prevent him from doing. Even though Arondir thought he was acting morally at the time, the Southlands’ survivors may hold him responsible for Adar’s mass execution of Southlanders because of his readiness to resist, which furthered the conflict between Middle humans earth and elves.

Arondir’s new supporters in Numenor and Eregion could possibly have an effect on the course of his plot in the future. Celebrimbor has already created the first three Rings of Power, and the remaining ones will soon follow. This will cause Middle-earth to shatter and lead to the formation of the Last Alliance of Elves and Men against Sauron’s troops. Arondir could have to decide between helping Elves defeat Sauron and aiding the displaced Southlanders in Pelargir as the unrest in Middle-earth intensifies.
