The hotly anticipated movie is scheduled for release next summer, but Total Film has just unveiled some brand-new images from it. Cillian Murphy plays J. Robert Oppenheimer in the movie, a theoretical physicist who oversaw the development of the first nuclear bombs during World War II. Oppenheimer would later reflect on his role in the power and devastation his bombs generated while serving as the head of the Manhattan Project’s Los Alamos Laboratory. In the years that followed, the U.S. Government persistently pursued him as they looked into his ties to the Communist Party.

Several fresh photos from Christopher Nolan’s upcoming Oppenheimer have just been made public, giving us our first glimpses of actors like Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Jr. who will co-star in the biopic with Cillian Murphy. The photographs, courtesy of Total Film, show Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. in particular looking significantly different from anything we have seen from him in the past. especially considering that for so long, his most well-known character has been the dapper Tony Stark with the beard.

After the Dark Knight trilogy, Dunkirk, and Inception, this is Murphy’s sixth picture with Nolan. However, this is the first time he is playing the primary character for the filmmaker, and an excellent ensemble of performers accompanies him. Along with Gary Oldman, Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, and Kenneth Branagh, Emily Blunt portrays his wife, Kitty. Lewis Strauss, the head of the US Atomic Enemy Commission, is portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. and might wind up serving as the movie’s main adversary.

The film was based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin, American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer. Nolan personally produced the movie in addition to adapting the script. Murphy previously admitted to Variety that he read a tonne in preparation for his role in the film. I want to know more about the man and how making the atomic bomb affected him. Although I lack the intellectual capacity to comprehend the mechanics of it, I find these contradicting individuals to be interesting.

Hoyte van Hoytema, who has previously worked with the filmmaker on films including Interstellar, Dunkirk, and Tenet, filmed the movie on IMAX, as is now Nolan’s custom, and partially in black and white. With the release of Tenet in the summer of 2020, Nolan will have worked with Universal for the first time after just ending a 20-year contract with Warner Bros. Studios.

On July 21, 2023, Oppenheimer has its theatrical debut.
