What can we expect from the second season of Shadow and Bone on Netflix?

Our heroes return to the fold for the final time, and more deaths are on the way. Kirigan uses Alina’s growing powers to create a new tunnel of light, allowing passage through the fold’s darkness. A major conflict erupts, and the world appears to be more divided than ever. The stags’ power continues to elude many of the characters, but in a vision, Alina realises that only she, not Kirigan, can harness it.

According to a season 2 synopsis obtained by What’s on Netflix, the second season will see Alina and Mal on the run in search of another mythical target that will aid them in their fight against Kirigan while possibly forming a new alliance. The Crows will also appear prominently in season 2 (and are even rumoured to get their own spin-off series), as they return to Ketterdam and face off against old foes.

Season 2 will feature “political intrigue, bloody battles, flying ships, reunited friends, new countries, and a family secret that will shatter all expectations,” according to the two showrunners.

HEISSERER: The best thing about Season Two is that we get to continue the stories of the characters we left in peril at the end of Season One.” This season holds a lot of promise for them. They must face the consequences of their actions, and along the way, they meet new people. This season also sees the expansion of the Grishaverse, both in mythology and in character. We expand the world, visit new places, and visit Novyi Zem and Shu Han, all of which are important to the story.

FRYKLIND: We’ve also dug into more mythology this season, not only in terms of the amplifiers, but also Morozova, the creator of the amplifiers, who he was, what his backstory is, and how he ties into this world. We go deeper and further out.

BARDUGO: I believe our readers now trust our writers as much as I do. This season, I was able to take a step back and leave the show in their capable hands. When we were approaching Season One, I think a lot of people thought, “It’s impossible.” It’s impossible. Why would you combine SHADOW AND BONE and SIX OF CROWS? ” And I believe we now have that trust. And I believe it will be very exciting for them to see how that trust pays off in Season Two.

Every aspect of the Grishaverse is involved. We’re going to meet some amazing new characters. We’ll see characters interacting with one another, questing with one another, fighting and laughing with one another that we never got to see in the books. And I believe that is what distinguishes this show. Readers will be surprised not only by the way these storylines collide, but they will never know where the next move will come from—which was actually a pleasure for me because I got to be surprised by my own stories.”
