Buckle up, passengers of Flight 828. Manifest is nearing its conclusion. The missing plane drama will end after the last package of episodes airs in 2019.
After three seasons, NBC abruptly canceled the show in June 2021, leaving several unsolved cliffhangers. Manifesters were left in shock. Fortunately, Netflix intervened and rescued the show, giving it one last season with 20 episodes to wrap up the tale of Flight 828. On November 4th, the first half of the fourth season debuted on the streamer and topped the charts for the first weekend. Season 4A got right to work, quickly wrapping up the loose ends from season 3.
The show’s creator Jeff Rake had a six-season plan in mind, though he has indicated that things could alter and end by season four. Because three seasons were condensed into one, many issues need to be resolved in the fourth season, especially in the second half. Here are the events that must take place in the remaining ten episodes of Manifest to guarantee a successful conclusion.
What Does Cal Want to Do?
Cal (Ty Doran), who vanished from the Eureka facility moments before Grace was about to pass away, makes a surprise cameo in the third season finale. There is only one drawback: He is now five years older. Cal acknowledges that he has grown up for a reason when asked by his family, although he is unsure of what that reason is. When he runs into Captain Daly and Fiona in a Calling, they have different opinions on whether he should “return” from wherever he went. He ultimately decides to return, believing there is “more to do,” and takes Fiona’s advice.
It is abundantly evident throughout the entire series that Cal is involved in the Callings for a reason. There is a strong implication that he is essential to solving the puzzle as a whole. What caused him to an age when he vanished from Eureka, and where did he go? Cal tries to make sense of what occurred to him, but his efforts are hampered by the return of his disease (more on that later). We might be one step closer to solving the mystery and Cal’s role in it if he can comprehend why he was sent away and his ultimate goal.
What Will Ultimately Happen to Zeke?
Zeke (Matt Long) seems to have no luck at all. Zeke and Michaela (Melissa Roxburgh) appear to be able to be together at last after Zeke atoned for his transgressions and outlived his expiration date in the season two finale. Zeke’s increased empathy makes him a great resource for the passengers when determining a person’s reliability. The discovery that Michaela still has feelings for her ex-boyfriend Jared initially complicates the relationship between Zeke and Michaela. Michaela admits she doesn’t want to love Jared and makes a commitment to Zeke, so this plot point is easily resolved.
Zeke makes use of his new skills throughout season 4A, even starting a counseling practice where he can practically feel his customers’ emotions just by holding their hands. This backfires when he takes on too much of their rage and hurt, which leads him to relapse and do harm to the clients. Zeke understands that he is alive today for a reason and that he must put his empathy to good use. We, therefore, anticipate what will happen when he grabs a dying Cal’s hands.
Expanded Mythology
Flight 828 has been associated with the supernatural and old mythology ever since the first season. These include a piece of driftwood purportedly from Noah’s Ark that is covered with the same minerals as 828 passengers, as well as a tarot deck from the philosopher Al-Zuras that Olive (Luna Blaise) found. It is possible to deduce how the passengers must cooperate in order to beat the death date from an ancient parchment depicting Maat, the Egyptian goddess of harmony and truth.
