The trailer for Netflix’s new web series The Recruit is out now. In it, Noah Centineo plays a young attorney who has just graduated from law school. The newest and youngest attorney in the CIA is Noah, who plays Owen Hendricks in the film The Recruit. He is in charge of the investigation into a potential data breach that could reveal private data.

The Recruit’s first official trailer was released today by Netflix. It introduces the character of Owen Hendricks, played by Centineo, who is a clueless rookie on his second day. He is given the responsibility of reading through all the letters that people threatening to leak confidential material have sent to the CIA as a new lawyer for the organisation. Despite initially appearing routine, this task will eventually lead him to some sinister truths that will completely upend his life.

The Recruit highlights an intriguing aspect of the series: it’s not all clean action. There are undoubtedly more chances for Centineo to demonstrate the comedic skills he developed in roles like the 2019 Charlie’s Angels revival and his teen comedies. There are many funny relief moments in the show because of how little knowledge his character has of what he’s doing, but there are also many more serious scenes than in his past works, showcasing Centineo’s breadth as his character becomes increasingly confused over what he learns.

In contrast to prior on-screen relationships, the trailer suggests a more mature and sensual romance. The trailer also makes fun of Owen’s appearance and behaviour in these scenes by having him drink a White Claw rather than James Bond’s customary martini. Owen may look and behave like 007 in these scenes. The teaser provides a better look at the rest of the cast in addition to displaying Centineo’s character in motion after previously just presenting still photos from the series.

Along with Centineo, the The Recruit ensemble also features Aarti Mann, Daniel Quincy Annoh, Vondie Curtis-Hall, Kristian Bruun, Laura Haddock, Colton Dunn, Fivel Stewart, Byron Mann, Angel Parker, and Kaylah Zande as Owen’s CIA colleagues who are enemies. With Adam Ciralsky, Charlie Ebersol, Doug Liman, Gene Klein, and David Bartis for Hypnotic, Centineo and Hawley executive produce the series.
