There has apparently been a custody agreement between Shakira and Gerard Piqué. The two parents of Milan and Sasha who were born in the same year, divorced in June, and a statement provided to USA Today confirms that they have struck a custody arrangement for their sons. The former couple insisted that they always put the safety of the children first.

The couple provided TMZ with a joint statement, “We have signed a custody agreement. Our sole objective is to provide our children with the utmost security and protection and hope that they can continue with their lives in a safe and calm environment. We appreciate that their privacy will be respected.” Before announcing their separation earlier this year, Shakira and Piqué had been dating for 11 years. When the pair announced their separation, they said in a joint statement, “We regret to confirm that we are separating. For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect our privacy. Thank you for your understanding.”

According to a close friend of the singer, the two said in a statement, “signed an agreement that is best for the kids which is their main focus and after 8 years of living in Barcelona, she and the kids will now move back to her longtime home of Miami, where all the maternal family is.” Shakira’s rumoured relocation to the US coincides with the continuing legal conflict she is currently facing in Spain.

The musician has been accused of stealing 14.5 million euros in taxes from the Spanish government. Shakira has decided to go to trial rather than accept a plea bargain from Spanish prosecutors. Six counts of tax fraud have been brought against the singer by the prosecution for failing to pay 14.5 million euros in income taxes.
