Nationwide Warning Issued Following Cooking Oil Recall

More than 2,000 cases of cooking oil have been recalled due to a packaging issue involving glass, prompting a nationwide warning from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Monday.

Primal Kitchen initiated the recall of 2,060 cases of three code dates of Primal Kitchen Avocado Oil due to concerns that the glass packaging may be prone to breakage. The affected products were distributed in the eastern United States, California, and sold online nationally.

While there have been no reports of consumer injuries or illnesses related to the recalled products, consumers who have purchased the affected items are advised to dispose of them and contact Primal Kitchen for further instructions.

Food recalls can encompass a variety of issues, ranging from bacterial contamination and undeclared allergens to foreign materials in the product or labeling errors. In this case, the voluntary recall was initiated after Primal Kitchen discovered the issue through routine monitoring of their warehouse, where they observed leakage of avocado oil from the packaging during shipping.

“Primal Kitchen is committed to upholding the highest safety and quality standards,” the company stated in their announcement shared by the FDA.

The affected product specifically pertains to the 750mL Primal Kitchen Avocado Oil with specific package UPC, case UPC, and “Best When Used By” dates. Primal Kitchen emphasized that no other sizes, formats, or batches are affected by this recall.

In a separate incident earlier this month, more than 700 units of a seasoning were recalled in three states due to a labeling error that may lead to undisclosed allergens. The affected product, Blues Hog Sweet and Savory Seasoning, contained soy and wheat allergens, which were not properly disclosed on the label.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled Blues Hog Sweet and Savory Seasoning are advised to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund or dispose of the product.

These incidents highlight the importance of thorough quality control and transparent labeling practices in the food industry to ensure consumer safety and prevent potential allergic reactions or other adverse health effects.
