In the United States and Canada, Volkswagen recalled 246,000 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport SUVs due to a wiring fault that might cause difficulties with the cars’ airbags, windows, and brakes.

According to a report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, damage to the cars’ wiring could cause airbags to activate “later than anticipated,” resulting in danger to passengers.

Other faults in the automobiles could result from the wiring issue, such as the vehicle’s windows rolling down on their own and the electronic parking brake engaging mistakenly at low speeds.

According to the source, the firm currently does not have a fix for the problem, but Volkswagen will offer a reimbursement scheme for recalled vehicles.

The Volkswagen Atlas and Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport are included in the recall, which runs from 2019 to 2023.

If their vehicles are affected by the recall, Volkswagen will contact owners and dealers by mail on May 10, 2022. When a solution is found, the business will notify owners so they may bring their SUVs in for repairs.

In the interim, owners can search their vehicle identification number, or VIN, on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website to determine if their vehicles are part of the recall.
