Tom Holland remembered his reaction to realising he had an alcohol “problem” at the time.

Tom Holland explained how, while attempting to abstain from drinking for a month, he came to the conclusion that he was “definitely addicted to alcohol”. “I was only able to think about getting a drink. On a recent edition of Jay Shetty’s “On Purpose” podcast, Holland recalled, “That’s all I could think about.

Holland initially gave up the bottle in January 2022 to partake in the enduringly popular “dry January” custom, which encourages individuals to abstain from alcohol for a month, usually after a busy holiday drinking season. But when the 27-year-old “Spider-Man: No Way Home” actor quit drinking, he realised there was more going on. “I was thinking about that as I woke up. I was looking at the time. The British actor said, “And it just really worried me.

“Perhaps I have a slight alcohol problem. I sort of made the decision to punish myself by deciding that I would also do February. I’ll take leave for two months. After abstaining from alcohol for two months, Holland, who is dating “Euphoria” actress Zendaya, admitted that he was “really struggling” and worried that he might have “an alcohol problem.” The actor subsequently made the decision to abstain from alcohol for six months, or until his birthday on June 1.

“I could get more rest. Things that would go wrong on set and would typically set me off could be handled better by me; I was able to take them in stride. I was much more mentally clear. I felt fitter and healthier, Holland reflected. I then asked myself, “Why am I so controlled by this drink? Why is the thought of having this drink so compelling to me?

Holland admitted that wasn’t his first attempt to stop drinking, saying that he had previously “gone back to drinking” a few times. But he claimed that this time was “different”. I made a lot of effort to alter my thinking. I genuinely questioned, “Why do you drink? What makes you drink? And a lot of the time, I’d respond that I’d feel better at ease in a social setting.

Holland has been alcohol-free for “a year and a half” now, and he is “over the moon” about it. The “Cherry” actor has found comfort in giving up alcohol, but he is not attempting to convert others to his way of life. “It would be amazing if I could persuade someone to drink less. However, I don’t want to start preaching to others that they should give up drinking. since I’m not the one to decide. Holland is now taking a break from acting after finishing “The Crowded Room.”
