Quentin Tarantino has seemingly upset the daughter of the finest martial artist and actor in Hollywood, Bruce Lee. Shannon Lee didn’t seem to go with Quentin Tarantino’s opinions about her late father. While Tarantino maybe a critically acclaimed director in Hollywood, he was no exception when it came to receiving bad criticism over his portrayal of Bruce Lee in his movie Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.
Just a couple of days ago, Quentin Tarantino appeared as a special guest on the podcast of Joe Rogan. On the podcast, Joe had asked him about the criticism he had to face for Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’s unexpected fight between Bruce Lee and Cliff Booth and its results. Answering to his question, Tarantino said that it was expected that Bruce Lee’s daughter would have an issue with the scene. He even went on to ask the host of the podcast whether anyone else than her had any problem with it? To this, Shannon Lee wrote a special piece in the guest column of the Hollywood Reporter.
Shannon’s column read, “As it is evident, the portrayal of my late father Bruce Lee in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood by Mr Tarantino, was unnecessary and inaccurate in my view, to be honest. (Please let?s not blame actor Mike Moh. He did what he could with what he was given.)” She went on to acknowledge Tarantino for generously realizing that she had right to express her feelings and also stated that she was extremely “tired of white men in Hollywood trying to tell me who Bruce Lee was.? She then continued to saying that Tarantino need not like Bruce Lee forcefully and didn’t care about it at all. However, she sternly encouraged him not to comment anything further about her father and to think about the impact his words had in the already conflicted world.
While opening up about her after portrayal in the movie, Shannon Lee acknowledged Tarantino’s intentions regarding the scene. She called Cliff Booth’s character a good one but thought the director could have given more justice to it.
