Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) leads the way in matchday revenue generation among Europe’s top football clubs, according to The Stadium Business Index 2024. At their home ground, Parc des Princes, PSG generated an impressive €3,192 per seat during the 2022-23 season. This figure is significantly higher than any other stadium among the top revenue-generating European clubs.

TheStadiumBusiness Index calculates annual revenue per seat by dividing the total matchday revenues of each club by their respective stadium capacities. PSG’s revenue per seat is based on a total matchday revenue of €153 million and a stadium capacity of 47,929 seats. In comparison, Chelsea, who ranked second in the Index, generated an average of €2,181 per seat.

Despite their success in revenue generation, PSG’s president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, recently expressed the club’s intention to relocate from Parc des Princes following the City of Paris’ decision that the stadium is not for sale.

Among English clubs, Chelsea led the way in the Index rankings, followed by Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Liverpool. Chelsea’s new Westview premium facility, opened in 2021, contributed to the growth of Stamford Bridge revenues.

Tottenham Hotspur ranked third in the Index, with a matchday revenue of €135 million and €2,148 per seat generated at their state-of-the-art Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the newest stadium among the top 20 clubs with a capacity of 62,850 seats.

Manchester United, despite facing on-pitch challenges in recent years, continues to generate significant income per seat. With average revenues of €2,032 per seat, United ranked fourth in the Index.

In terms of matchday revenue percentage of total income, Arsenal led among English clubs, with matchday revenues accounting for 22.2% of the club’s income, followed closely by Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

FC Barcelona topped the overall matchday income with €166 million, investing in a complete rebuild of the Camp Nou last summer.

Olympique de Marseille, a Ligue 1 club, had the highest matchday income percentage of total income at 24.8%, highlighting the significance of matchday revenues for the club’s financial structure.
