Microsoft has been trying to get hold of game studios since last few years. Its record-setting deal to buy ZeniMax which is the parent company of Bethesda Softworks LLC for a whopping $7.5 billion highlighted Microsoft’s ambitions for first-party game development.

Microsoft Plans To Acquire Gaming Studios

While appearing on Twitch’s Glitchcon, Xbox head Phil Spencer brought the topic of the massive Bethesda acquisition in his opening address and informed that there’ll be more additions to the list in the upcoming years. Spencer also highlighted that the Bethesda deal is happening, but its finalization won’t be done until 2021 due to the regulatory processes put in place. He added, “Collaborating and including them in Xbox team I believe will prove to be an amazing scenario as the developer keeps on developing more great games. The most amazing thing about the acquisition is that the new games will be made available on the Game Pass on the day of their launch creating even more opportunities for individuals to try their hands on them.”

Spencer also confirmed, “We will surely be making consistent investments in acquiring new game studios, new games and newer content. It is vital that we continue to develop the available game library on Xbox. When Bethesda will be added, our studio size will increase by two times and we’ll continuously invest in fantastic games enabling individuals to look for their new favorite game on Xbox.”

Spencer’s statements indicated that Microsoft doesn’t just consider Xbox as a piece of tech but it is actually trying to raise a software kingdom of its own with Xbox Game Pass to support it. He also stated that getting Bethesda didn’t necessarily mean making all of its games exclusive for just consoles and they didn’t intend on forcing anyone to buy their hardware. In the video. Spencer took the chance to apologize for the Xbox Series X/S unavailability, tending to Xbox fans’ disappointments.
