Jamie Otis, a former cast member of “Married at First Sight,” said the pair had been married for “nine and a half years” but she was only recently made aware of the extent of her husband’s prior drug abuse.
After being married for almost ten years, Jamie Otis is speaking up about finding out about her husband Doug Hehner’s prior drug overdose.
The 37-year-old Married at First Sight star uploaded a tearjerking video on Thursday in which she described how she learnt about the terrifying occurrence while recording the couple’s podcast, Hot Marriage. Awesome parents.

She sobbed and stated, “We are recording the podcast and somehow [it] always becomes a therapy session for us.” “Someone mentioned the death of her brother from drugs [in a listener’s] five-star review, and it just caused Doug to feel like he could open up a little bit more about all that he was going through and a time that he almost died from his drug addiction that I didn’t even know about.”
The former reality star explained in the caption that the information wasn’t entirely unexpected because she had anticipated that Hehner, 39, was “hiding something from me, though I didn’t know exactly what.”
When she was visiting his family over the holidays, they told her, “When Doug’s ready to tell you, he will,” she said. “I asked Doug what on earth they were talking about, but of course, he didn’t say.”
“I experienced a sense of being an outsider. Knowing that there was a secret that no one wanted to share with me stung, she continued. I had no idea that my husband was merely hiding because he was humiliated. He was sorry. He was humiliated. His family was also guarding him.
We cried together and I feel like we have grown more in one talk than we have in our entire marriage, even though it took us almost a decade to get there.
He added, “He is no longer hiding. ” He ended the message by saying that she was “proud” of her spouse for speaking out. He is unbound. And I can see that he is truly happy.
On the most recent Hot Marriage episode. Hehner told his wife on an episode of Cool Parents that he overdosed on opioids at his parents’ house 12 years prior and that “there was one time where my sister had to wake me up because she heard me wheezing in my sleep. I’m not sure if I ever told you about this.
You’ve never told me this, said Otis, who wed Hehner in 2014 on the inaugural season of Married at inaugural Sight. Even though we’ve been married for about nine and a half years and you haven’t told me a lot, I’m constantly learning.
