Kansas women’s basketball player Taiyanna Jackson has been awarded the Big 12 Player of the Week accolade for her outstanding performance in the recent games. This marks the super-senior center’s third time earning this prestigious title at KU.
Jackson’s remarkable display during the Jan. 31 game against BYU played a significant role in securing the award. Facing off against BYU’s senior forward Lauren Gustin, the nation’s leading rebounder, Jackson achieved a career-high of 22 rebounds and scored 25 points in the 67-53 victory. Her performance made her the first KU basketball player since 2015 to achieve a 20 point/20 rebound game.
Moreover, Jackson’s performance in the game also marked her 36th double-double of her career, where she excelled in two statistical categories, an accomplishment that ranks as the third-most in Kansas women’s basketball history since Vickie Adkins in 1983-1986.
Following her exceptional performance, Jackson continued her stellar play with 20 points and nine rebounds in the 81-74 win against TCU on Feb. 3.
Jackson, along with the rest of the Kansas squad, will aim to extend their two-game winning streak as they host Houston on Thursday night. The game is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. tip-off and will be streamed on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
