CBS News

Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter are celebrating an incredible milestone – their 77th wedding anniversary – with a relaxed day at their cozy home in south Georgia. These two lovebirds have now officially become the longest-married first couple ever, and they’re doing it in style, despite their age and health challenges.

At the ripe age of 98, Jimmy, the 39th president, has been receiving home hospice care since February. Meanwhile, his amazing partner-in-crime, Rosalynn, is 95 and bravely battling dementia.

Although the Carter family hasn’t provided specific details about their conditions, they have made it clear that both Jimmy and Rosalynn have been enjoying quality time together with their family. They’ve also been fortunate enough to receive visits from dear friends, who have been sprinkling their days with warmth and love.

Recently, their grandson Jason Carter expressed his gratitude for the incredible support and affection that has been pouring in for his grandparents. It’s heartwarming to witness the immense love and respect that people have for this remarkable couple. Love has truly been the driving force behind their personal relationship and the way they have approached the world.

For the past fifty years, Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter have graced both the American and international stage together. Their partnership, which they describe as nothing short of extraordinary, began long before Jimmy’s political career. It blossomed during their time working together on the Carter family farm business. Since leaving the White House in 1981, they have dedicated themselves to making a positive impact on a global scale, through their humanitarian work with The Carter Center, which they established the following year.

The Carters have left an indelible mark on history, and their unwavering bond is an inspiration to us all.
