Former Clemson WR Diondre Overton Shot and Killed in Greensboro

Former Clemson wide receiver Diondre Overton has tragically passed away. The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Overton was fatally shot in Greensboro around 2:30 AM local time on Friday, September 7, 2024.

Sheriff Danny H. Rogers reported that deputies responded to a call about a loud party and noise disturbance at 3205 Spring Mill Road, Greensboro, NC. On their arrival, they learned that a shooting had occurred. Deputies found Overton, 26, who despite immediate medical attention, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are urging anyone with information or who attended the party to contact Detective J. Robertson at 336-641-5969. Clemson University issued a statement expressing their grief: “Clemson Football and the entire Clemson Family mourn the passing of Clemson alumnus Diondre Overton. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.” On social media, fans and the Clemson community shared their condolences. One person wrote, “Heartbroken and I wanted to wait to post this but last night Clemson Family lost former Tiger Diondre Overton in a shooting in Greensboro. Please pray for the Overton Family and our Clemson Family during this tragic time.” Another fan added, “Former Clemson WR Diondre Overton has reportedly passed away due to a shooting that occurred last night. My prayers go out to the Overton family. Diondre will be remembered fondly by the Clemson family and he was taken from us far too soon due to a senseless tragedy. May he rest in peace ❤️.”
