Elizabeth Olsen, known for her portrayal of Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), is actively seeking a change of scenery in her career. After dedicating four years solely to the MCU, Olsen is eager to explore a wider range of characters and projects, recognizing the importance of variation in her work.

In a recent interview with The Times of London, conducted before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Olsen expressed her desire to diversify her roles after consecutive projects as Scarlet Witch in “WandaVision” and “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” While she appreciates her association with the iconic character, Olsen believes that a well-rounded career demands more than just one role.

Olsen stated, “I’m trying to figure out… Because, specifically in the last four years, my output has been Marvel. I don’t want… it’s not that I don’t want to be associated as just this character. But I really feel like I need to be building other parts back up for balance. I so much want to do films right now. And I hope some of them come together in the way I feel like they can. But yeah, that’s something that I need. I just need other characters in my life. There’s no longevity in one character.”

The COVID-19 pandemic and her Marvel commitments limited the variety of roles Olsen had started to explore in 2017. Films like “Wind River” and “Ingrid Goes West” allowed her to showcase her versatility as an actress, and she now yearns for more diverse characters and experiences in her career.

During a conversation with fellow actor Meghann Fahy for Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series, Olsen candidly revealed that she doesn’t miss her days as Scarlet Witch. She emphasized her pride in the work she accomplished in the MCU and expressed a desire to shift her focus toward other films and characters.

Olsen’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe remains uncertain, as she currently has no confirmation of when or if she will return as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch. Her journey with the character began in 2015’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and culminated in 2022’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” Scarlet Witch’s fate in the MCU remains unknown after her sacrifice to destroy the Darkhold, a malevolent book of sorcery that had corrupted her.

As Elizabeth Olsen continues her pursuit of diverse roles, fans eagerly anticipate her next steps in the world of cinema, where she hopes to carve out a multifaceted career beyond the Marvel universe.
