Sonia Denis Joins Disney+ Series ‘Ironheart’

Variety reports that Sonia Denis has been cast in an undisclosed role in Ironheart, the newest Marvel Studios television series on Disney+. Denis also worked on Guilty Party for Paramount+ and most recently received an Emmy nomination for his efforts on the HBO show A Black Lady Sketch Show’s writing staff.

The protagonist of the six-episode series is Dominique Thorne’s portrayal of Riri Williams. Riri, a genius engineering student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is 15 years old. Williams creates a suit of armour modelled after Iron Man’s, as created by Tony Stark, and adopts the moniker Ironheart. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which opens in theatres in November, will be the first movie to feature Williams, who made his or her debut in the teaser only recently. Of the D23 Expo in California in September, a first look at Ironheart was also shown.

Along with Lyric Ross, Anthony Ramos, Alden Ehrenreich, Manny Montana, and Denis. Ross will play Williams’ best friend, and Ramos will play the show’s antagonist, The Hood. The D23 footage did show Ramos’ character telling Williams that she might be forced to do bad things for a good cause before finding a red hood and displaying some magical abilities. However, there are currently few plot details available.

Williams’ inventive skills were showcased in the most recent Wakanda Forever trailer, in which she assembled her iron armour and joyously took flight while wearing it. The character is shown smashing the suit in earlier trailers, in a very obvious homage to Robert Downey Jr.’s iconic sequence from the first Iron Man movie, which began the Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2008. The show is establishing the protagonist to be Iron Man’s spiritual heir.
