Liz Truss traveled to Prague for the inaugural gathering of the European Political Community. The organisation strives to enhance security and energy cooperation across Europe. It is the idea of French President Emmanuel Macron and will include leaders from almost all of the European Union’s member states, with the exception of Russia and Belarus. Truss claimed that Macron was a “friend” and that she attended the event “not to move closer to Europe.” She met with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and French President Emmanuel Macron to talk about the importance of energy and migration. All 27 EU leaders are among the 44 heads of state and government who will be present at the meeting.

After Truss visits Prague, Macron declares that the UK and Europe are in a new chapter.

The participation of Liz Truss in a new political organization in Europe, according to French President Emmanuel Macron, might signal “a new phase” in UK-European ties.
At the conference in Prague, where 44 European leaders gathered to talk about problems like security, energy, and migration, Macron and Truss had one-on-one conversations.

This is the day after [Brexit], and I do hope that this is the start of a new era of our connections,” he told the press.

He continued, “Having the prime minister [Truss] here is very good news… having the UK participating in a lot of joint undertakings makes a lot of sense, both for the UK and for us. To preserve the unity of our continent, we are willing to work together.

A buddy or something big for the future?

Before their meeting, Truss had referred to Macron as “a buddy,” and according to a joint statement, their discussions resulted in a “renewed bilateral agenda.”
The statement added that a bilateral summit would be planned for the following year and stated that the president and prime minister “reaffirmed the strong and historic relations between their two countries.”

Liz Truss stated that Emmanuel Macron was a “friend” and that her attendance at the European summit in Prague was “not about growing closer to Europe.” For the inaugural gathering of the European Political Community, which aims to advance security and energy cooperation, the prime minister traveled to the capital of the Czech Republic.
