In the Donovan Mitchell deal, did Danny Ainge attempt to “rob” the Knicks?

Ainge attempted to benefit from Mitchell’s ties at the Empire State.

There may be no way for the New York Knicks to escape suffering the same fate indirectly as former Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell.

After missing out on Mitchell’s moves despite being their longtime leader, the Knicks are currently the subject of another basketball farce. They might have been the victims of a robbery planned by Danny Ainge if Mitchell had been sporting the red and gold of the Cleveland Cavaliers rather than the red and blue of the New York Knicks.

Everyone who was even marginally involved in NBA basketball believed that the Knicks and Mitchell would make for a fantastic matchup. Mitchell’s obvious longing for the city is nothing new to him. Ainge, who oversees basketball operations for the Jazz and is in charge of Utah’s ongoing reconstruction effort, wants the Knicks to foot the bill.

Enormous stockpile of draught picks

The unnamed NBA manager, Three unprotected first-round picks from the Cavaliers were subsequently acquired by Utah after it successfully lobbied the Knicks to lift the limits on its enormous stockpile of draught picks (among other assets). Ainge, however, seems to be attempting to personalize things, much like Michael Jordan did before him.

The filmmaker told Marc Berman, “I think Danny thought that if he delivered Mitchell to New York, he intended to rob them.”

He is aware of how much they desire him.

For Ainge’s tenure with the Knicks

Particularly as an executive, there are few precedents. Ainge only made one trade with the Knicks while serving as the Boston Celtics’ head coach, exchanging Nate Robinson for Henry Walker in 2010.

The Knicks were compelled to give RJ Barrett a contract extension after talks with the Jazz broke down. Since Barrett had already arrived before current managers Leon Rose and William Wesley made the choice, management was hesitant to make it. However, when it became evident that Mitchell’s dream would come true, it was a little consolation prize.

Ainge probably wants to stay home for the February 11 rematch in New York against the Knicks, which he could miss if he doesn’t sign a new contract with the Celtics.
