Lena Waithe and Common conceived and served as executive producers of the popular Showtime drama series The Chi, which has been renewed for a sixth season. Season 5 is currently underway when the renewal is announced. Up until the season finale, which will be streamed on September 2 and broadcast two days later, new episodes will continue to air every weekend on the linear network and every Friday on streaming sites.

Since its inception, The Chi has made a name for itself in the digital sphere; its December 2017 season premiere broke the subscriber record for Showtime.
