“Running with the Devil: The Wild World of John McAfee,” a new Netflix documentary, explores the crypto evangelist’s turbulent life and enigmatic passing, including his former lover Samantha Herrera’s assertion that he is still living in Texas and is still alive. In order to analyze McAfee’s tumultuous past, the documentary, which makes its debut on August 24, is directed by Bafta-winning filmmaker Charlie Russell and combines unedited video with interviews.

Russell claims that when the software mogul fled the country for tax cheating, he started talking to McAfee about a prospective documentary in an interview with Esquire. Russell claims that after sending McAfee a message and giving him his credentials, he was invited to join him for some filming.

Russell told Esquire that he is unsure of his thoughts and doesn’t believe Herrera is either when asked about Herrera’s allegations that McAfee phoned her after his death. She says it, then she turns to face the camera, and it’s unclear to him whether she believes it to be true or not, he said.

Herrera claimed to interviewers that her connection with McAfee started when she was 18 years old, while the New York Post claims that he ended it after having a heart attack in 2012. Later, he was hitched to Janice Dyson. McAfee’s wife, but she chose not to comment. She later tweeted that her late spouse had truly died away, though.

She wrote, “If John were still alive, he “definitely wouldn’t be hiding out in Texas,” said the speaker.” She subsequently said, “Texas is wonderful, for sure. However, John was detained in Spain due to false accusations brought by the IRS, so I doubt he would want to flee to America. That would be ridiculous.

On tax evasion accusations stemming from an alleged ICO pump-and-dump operation that garnered more than $23 million, McAfee risked a sentence of 30 years in jail. As Russell told Esquire, “You are debating how you feel about seeing this man, who without a doubt has done some horrible things.” It all depends on how you strike a balance between those two things since others around him are aware of both how terrible and how wonderful he can be.

McAfee passed away in June 2021 while being held in detention in Spain, perhaps by suicide. McAfee’s widow has launched a petition drive to persuade the Spanish government into releasing her husband’s remains so that an unbiased autopsy can be conducted. She has continued to challenge the official explanations for her husband’s death.
